THE HOLLOW SKY is a dark high fantasy novel set in a city built among ruins and haunted by the Dead.

 

Isain Dana is an Orphan, a sorcerer tasked with hunting down and destroying the dead. He is driven by a hunger for sorcerous knowledge, but paralysed by a fear of the dead that are his responsibility. 

Night was once a great city, but now the Nightfolk clans eke out survival in the ruins, clinging to ancient rituals and laws, as the dead crowd the hinterlands. When Andrad, Dana’s mentor, commits suicide, Dana takes up his hunt for a dangerous Greater Dead. But before he died, Andrad committed a dangerous betrayal: he helped a rival clan’s Sacrificial Child – born to be sacrificed to the clan’s Ancestor – escape the city in exchange for that clan’s sacrificial knife, an act that threatens to ignite a blood feud between the clans.
 

As the clans war with words and knives, the dead gather both outside and inside the city. Dana must rebuild Andrad’s investigation and discover who the Greater Dead is, and why Andrad broke his oaths to steal the knife.
 

If Dana fails, his clan will fall and the dead will overrun the city. But to defeat the Greater Dead he must learn forbidden sorceries and become something more dangerous than his enemy, even if it means turning the other Orphans and his clan against him.
